More Threads

Hi everyone..I am back  after a long break. I was not keeping well for the last two months but I am slowly limping back to normalcy and hope to get better soon and will continue my stitching and embroidery. And also, there was a marriage in the family and that kept me busy too.
Today I received a parcel from my children(son and daughter together) and guess what ? THREADS!.It is never too much when it comes to anything that is connected to embroidery or stitching. How can someone say NO when it it comes to these things. You never have ENOUGH of these.

During some of those odd days, when you have no mood to sew or to do embroidery, I like to go through all my collections and arrange them and dream of doing so much.(At least let me dream!) End of the day I feel happy and refreshed.

Coming to the threads , I got perle cotton no 5 with which I am planning to try some stump work. The fire line beading wire is for jewellery making and the variegated floss is for some small projects which I am planning to frame it and give back to them as my gift.Let me see how much will I be able to finish in the list:).

I am leaving to the US in Feb and have a lot to stitch for myself. And I have to do some shopping and  really have to plan everything and try my best to stick to it. Presently I am doing embroidery on a short tops and almost finished it.Will post it soon.

Running Stitch!

I bought a Salwar set and while cutting I didn't have any intention of doing any embroidery. After cutting I realized that the dress can be highlighted with a simple embroidery. So I thought of doing running stitch on the design with an addition of a few sequins here and there. What started with a simple work, extended to an elaborate stitching. It took me two days and I think it is worth the effort:) What is your opinion hmmm?

Jewellery with crystal and beads

My daughter bought this crystal (bigger) and I bought the remaining here in Chennai. I learnt this here. WOW! what a lovely tutorial. The small beads I bought here was not of great quality.I had to pick and sort the beads for correct size and shape,as unlike what you get in the US the ones here are very pathetic.

And here is the finished one.Waiting for your comments:)

Coincidentally this is my HUNDREDTH POST !

Design For Neck

This is the design I drew  today for doing Mirror work. Thanks Leela for your design. That can be used as it is.As such it is very good, and can be used without mirror work.I will take a print out and keep it.Waiting for your suggestions and comments on this design. Working on what stitches  to be used in this. Will do a trial piece and proceed.

Filling Stitch

This a filling stitch I learnt from the internet(You Tube). This video was in Spanish(my guess),but the making was very clear. I think Leela must be knowing the name of the stitch:)..Thank you Leela for telling me the name of the new stitch which was Spanish knotted feather stitch. I made a mistake in this one and you can see it below the letters. Will be more attentive when I do the next one.

Mirror Work

Today I was in no mood to do anything useful:)..Was just browsing the net for some new stitches and design.I have got a lot to stitch, but before that I wanted to do some embroidery on those clothes.Suddenly I thought of doing mirror work and so once again browsed Ina's blog for that. And here is what I tried today..
Not so perfect but will try and get the perfection.I did this with 2 strands of silk thread.Anybody have a design for the neck which can incorporate this mirror work? Please send me some designs.

Crochet!

As I said I learnt crochet and tried this in bottle cap.I learnt from my sister in law(brothers wife) and here it is.Though this has not come out well,I will surely try and give my best. But going to complete the flower in needle lace and do one more with crochet.Thank you once again Latha for being an inspiration for me to learn crochet.

One More

I stitched one more for my grand daughter. The material available with me was just enough for a stitching this A Line frock.Only the pieces which was cut from the arm hole and neck was left behind..

Inspiration from crochet

This is an inspiration from Latha's blog, where she has posted  a bottle cap trivet.I made this in padded needle lace by filling it in concentric circles. But this is no way near that.I will soon post it in crochet also.Again thank you Latha for sharing that wonderful work.I used DMC perle cotton 5 for this.

A NEW STITCH!

I learnt this stitch from my friend. It looks like a Ric Rac Lace and I fell in love the moment I saw it.It is very easy to stitch too. This will be a beautiful border stitch and here is the tutorial for this.

Start a few mm below the starting point.

And here is the finished one.I hope you understand the stitch and like it too..

Hoop

This is an embroidery hoop which I bought in a garage sale in the US for a dollar. This is mainly used for embroidery kits with size limitation.Only rectangle or square piece of cloth or canvas can fit into it.Only the width is limited but the length is not.It depends on the thickness of the fabric. Now I am planning to make a sampler for stitches which I like very much. The cloth is inserted in a slit in the longer side and can be rolled to get the needed tension of the fabric. Then the nut is tightened to maintain the tension.

Stacked Chain Stitch

Though I have a lot of uncompleted projects, I was simply browsing the net for some new stitches and bumped into Annet's blog and found this wonderful stitch.I went through the tutorial again and again till I understood the stitch.I did one row of plain stacked chain stitch and one with beads. The beads I had was not that good, but I still used it to just get the feel of it.

Mirror Work

I was going through Ina's blog and was so happy to see various type of mirror work. Here is one more which I saw in my niece house and took a snap of it immediately.I am not happy with the clarity of the picture.Sorry about that. The outer part is blanket stitch..How intelligently the stitch has been used!isn't it?

The ring of the mirror is a ready made one.Blanket stitch stitched on a plastic ring..That will not last long and so I never use it.But we can stitch the mirror as usual (refer Ina's blog) and can decorate it with the blanket stitch.

There is a one more simple way of stitching a mirror without much trouble. And here it is..

Fix the mirror in the place you want it and work chain stitch  loosely around it.then bring the needle up in between the chain stitch and the mirror carefully and start connecting all the chain(mark the starting place with a dot)and slowly pull the thread holding the mirror with a finger. For the clarity of the stitches I used 3 strands. But 2 strands is what I normally use.

Now again insert the needle through the thread(as shown in the picture)and again bring it up and work one more round of chain stitch and complete it.

Padded Needle lace

For many days I was contemplating in doing this embroider as I was not very confident about the outcome.I always envy Janet M Davies works(Stitchinfingers) admiring the beauty of the raised embroidery.I often enlarge the picture and try to read the minute details in it to figure out as to how to go about it.Fearing failure I hesitated to even start doing it.But I could not take this out of my mind totally. So finally I decided to do it.I did not have any wadding to stuff the inside, instead I managed it with cotton. The thread I used is DMC Perle cotton 5 which I bought it from the US.But I am not happy with it.I want to try one more design in Anchor cotton thread.I will try a small sample with that and if the thread suits then will surely do a larger piece and get it box framed.Though the embroidery is not up to my expectation I am happy that at least I gave it a try.

Multi Colour Silk Thread Embroidery

I felt that there was too much gap in between and wanted to fill in something..So I tried this.Any suggestions..I am blank. Can anybody give me some idea on how to go about it or leave it as it is?

Waiting for your comments:)

Trying out with different threads and design

This is a shaded cloth which I bought for a short top.I am trying out some threads and design.I tried this multi colour herring bone stitch, may be will use it around the neck and for the sleeves.I liked it and going ahead with that.In addition I am planning to do some more embroidery and still working it out.I saw oyster stitch in Sadalas blog and thinking of making rose buds with leaves using that stitch. Will post that once I try it out.

Multi Colour Thread Embroidery

I actually wanted to post this work even as I was half way through.I was very much excited to see the design taking shape.I finished it just now and here it is.I bought this multi colour silk thread and wanted to do try it out.I did a free hand drawing for the neck of a short top.I started the work four days back and as the embroidery proceeded I was thrilled to see the design evolving slowly like magic in front of my eyes. The shading was not under my control as the thread in itself had so many colours.I did not fill the petals one by one, instead I worked simultaneously on all the petals so that the linear colours of the thread could lend itself in all the petals.I first did a outline with chain stitching but thought that was too simple. So I worked petal stitch along the chain stitch which made it look more decorative.

I cannot forget this stitch as this is what introduced me to this adorable world of blogging.Though I had references to most of  the stitches,I tried to search the internet for petal stitch and happened to land into Deepa's blog. This opened up a whole new world to me.And so I am here.Thank you again Deepa for making this possible.

I am thinking of filling the empty spaces with  very small flowers. What is your opinion?

Bullion stitch

Though I am not very good at bullion stitch,I wanted to give it a try.So I started a project some time back and here it is. This is for the sleeve for a plain saree and I matched the thread with the cloth. To enhance the work I added some tube beads and sequins..I am not very happy with the result..but still wanted to do something with the bullion stitch..May be as I keep practicing the stitch I will be able to do it more perfectly.Your comments are most welcome..

Back after a long break

Hi every body,It has been four months since I did something creatively to share with you all. I came from the US in September and I was shunting between Coimbatore and Chennai for some reason or the other. In the process we were looking for an apartment too for us to move to Chennai for good. Finally in February we located a good place and decided to move in March. But with all the woodwork and minor alterations we couldn't move in March.By then our daughter in law came to spend time with us with the little one (grandson). We finally moved in April and dumped all the boxes in one room as we wanted to spend time with our grandson. He is one bundle of energy and kept us very busy all the time. She left on May 1st and we started unpacking and arranging the house.By mid May we finished organizing. As my daughter has planned a visit to India I spent the next 10 days in stitching dresses for her and my grand daughter. She landed on June 3rd and from then on I hardly had time for anything else. After a month's stay she flew back on 30th June. It took a week for me to come out of the emptiness.Since life has to go on...so here I am :)
I am posting an embroidery done by my neighbor. She has used wool for it and the colors are so vibrant and beautiful.

Peacock Design

For a change I am not doing this on a dress instead I am going to frame it.I am going to use sequins and beads for the feather section and selected the thread and the sequins in the same shade.

Embroidery Stand

This stand comes handy when you need to use both hands when the frame is bigger. As I wanted to fit the design in one frame I used a bigger hoop and  it was very difficult to hold it and this one came very handy. My daughter bought this for me and it is really convenient.I just wanted to share this with you all.

Frock

I stitched this for my grand daughter.I love adding satin ribbon as it gives a nice feel for the dress. That was a bit I bought for a steal.Just Rs 50( a dollar).Bits are always cheap and I think for stitching a frock for the kids it makes sense too.

Short tops

I was thinking of doing some applique in this cloth, but was not sure about what design to choose.I went to buy some lace and saw this embroidered yoke there. So I bought that and attached it.The work is very neatly done and looked grand too.
