Mirror Work

I was going through Ina's blog and was so happy to see various type of mirror work. Here is one more which I saw in my niece house and took a snap of it immediately.I am not happy with the clarity of the picture.Sorry about that. The outer part is blanket stitch..How intelligently the stitch has been used!isn't it?

The ring of the mirror is a ready made one.Blanket stitch stitched on a plastic ring..That will not last long and so I never use it.But we can stitch the mirror as usual (refer Ina's blog) and can decorate it with the blanket stitch.

There is a one more simple way of stitching a mirror without much trouble. And here it is..

Fix the mirror in the place you want it and work chain stitch  loosely around it.then bring the needle up in between the chain stitch and the mirror carefully and start connecting all the chain(mark the starting place with a dot)and slowly pull the thread holding the mirror with a finger. For the clarity of the stitches I used 3 strands. But 2 strands is what I normally use.

Now again insert the needle through the thread(as shown in the picture)and again bring it up and work one more round of chain stitch and complete it.

Padded Needle lace

For many days I was contemplating in doing this embroider as I was not very confident about the outcome.I always envy Janet M Davies works(Stitchinfingers) admiring the beauty of the raised embroidery.I often enlarge the picture and try to read the minute details in it to figure out as to how to go about it.Fearing failure I hesitated to even start doing it.But I could not take this out of my mind totally. So finally I decided to do it.I did not have any wadding to stuff the inside, instead I managed it with cotton. The thread I used is DMC Perle cotton 5 which I bought it from the US.But I am not happy with it.I want to try one more design in Anchor cotton thread.I will try a small sample with that and if the thread suits then will surely do a larger piece and get it box framed.Though the embroidery is not up to my expectation I am happy that at least I gave it a try.

Multi Colour Silk Thread Embroidery

I felt that there was too much gap in between and wanted to fill in something..So I tried this.Any suggestions..I am blank. Can anybody give me some idea on how to go about it or leave it as it is?

Waiting for your comments:)

Trying out with different threads and design

This is a shaded cloth which I bought for a short top.I am trying out some threads and design.I tried this multi colour herring bone stitch, may be will use it around the neck and for the sleeves.I liked it and going ahead with that.In addition I am planning to do some more embroidery and still working it out.I saw oyster stitch in Sadalas blog and thinking of making rose buds with leaves using that stitch. Will post that once I try it out.

Multi Colour Thread Embroidery

I actually wanted to post this work even as I was half way through.I was very much excited to see the design taking shape.I finished it just now and here it is.I bought this multi colour silk thread and wanted to do try it out.I did a free hand drawing for the neck of a short top.I started the work four days back and as the embroidery proceeded I was thrilled to see the design evolving slowly like magic in front of my eyes. The shading was not under my control as the thread in itself had so many colours.I did not fill the petals one by one, instead I worked simultaneously on all the petals so that the linear colours of the thread could lend itself in all the petals.I first did a outline with chain stitching but thought that was too simple. So I worked petal stitch along the chain stitch which made it look more decorative.

I cannot forget this stitch as this is what introduced me to this adorable world of blogging.Though I had references to most of  the stitches,I tried to search the internet for petal stitch and happened to land into Deepa's blog. This opened up a whole new world to me.And so I am here.Thank you again Deepa for making this possible.

I am thinking of filling the empty spaces with  very small flowers. What is your opinion?
